Technological innovations, carbon methodologies and climate change.

Today is Friday, December 15, 2023.

There is no way to ignore patents that arise from scientific work and basic research. Especially in times when, despite artificial intelligence, we are increasingly affected by the impacts of climate change.

Even here on the Carbon Credit Markets portal we quote two admirable classical scientists. Below their phrases, two from Madame Curie and one from Lavoisier:

Madame Marie Curie, chemist and physicist, lived between 1867 and 1934, was French but born in Poland.

- “Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.”.

- “I am among those who think that science has great beauty”.

Antoine-Laurent De Lavoisier, also a Frenchman who lived between 1743 and 1794, was the founder of modern chemistry and an intellectual of the Industrial Revolution.

- “In nature nothing is created, nothing is lost, everything changes. We must trust to nothing but facts: These are presented to us by Nature, and cannot deceive”.

In other words, the well-known expression, "nothing is created, nothing is lost, everything is transformed".

Then we ask, for example, how do you develop your methodology for carbon credits? Are you associated with a great scientist from a renowned institution? It is validated with an open international public consultation? It would be important. In fact, we can help.

Then there is technology.

Carbon capture? What to do before, during and after? Remember some challenges. "Petrobras And Kureha Team Up On Offshore CCS. And State of the Art Technologies 2023."

Wind power, what raw materials go into the composition of magnets? And recycling it all?

What about hydrogen, the smallest molecule in the periodic table?

Why countries like China, USA, Japan, Republic of Korea and Germany were the ones with the highest number of patent applications in 2022, with China having almost half of all? More pragmatic view of the present time? Valuation of patents as a source of income and vanguard? Prioritization, with concession processes much faster than in other countries, some that have not yet realized this type of competitive advantage, far beyond academic recognition?

Think about it.

Take advantage and browse the new annual report of indicators from World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) by clicking at the image below.

It cites, for example, that around 27,260 applications for plant varieties were submitted worldwide in 2022, an increase of 8.2% compared to 2021 and the seventh consecutive year of growth.

On their portal there is also a tool called Patentscope, where you can do millions of searches. Try searches like "hydrogen ethanol" or "carbon capture" or "artificial photosynthesis".
