Today is Sunday, September 10, 2023.
A group of G20 countries annouced yesterday the launch of the Global Biofuels Alliance.
India. "A watershed moment in the quest towards sustainability and clean energy", according to the press release from Government. It includes a post on X (ex-Twitter) with an enthousiastic 1 minute video. India is currently hosting and holding the Presidency of the G20 Summit.
United States. "Innovative partnerships as part of a global effort to combat climate change ... progress in our shared commitment to deploy cleaner, greener fuels around the world ... securing the supply of biofuels, ensuring these biofuels remain affordable and are produced sustainably" as indicated in the press release from the White House.
Brazil. Great news considering that since the 70's, Brazil developed the so-called flex-engine, that can run with 100% ethanol, or 100% gasoline, or any mixture of both. Currently, 80% of the Brazilian fleet of vehicles has a flex engine and along the last 20 years, over 40 millon cars were sold. Additionally, gasoline in Brazil is already mixed with 27,5% of ethanol. And may be up to 30% soon.
According to the Indian Prime Minister, in an article from The Times of India, "Our proposal is to take an initiative at a global-level to take ethanol blending in petrol up to 20 per cent". Click at the image below for the full article.
Founding members are Argentina, Brazil, India, Italy, Mauritius, UAE and United States. Bangladesh and Singapore already attended as observers. More countries are expected to formally join the Alliance soon.
