Last December 2023, the Climate Action Data Trust (CAD Trust) launched its Data Dashboard with aggregated and harmonised data from independent carbon credit registries, information available for public consultation.
CAD Trust is a decentralised, blockchain-based platform in a joint effort by the World Bank, the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA), and the Government of Singapore.
It currently includes data from four registries, Verra, Global Carbon Council, EcoRegistry, BioCarbon Registry as well as the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) data from the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
Great step to boost transparency and integrity within carbon markets.
According to the press release "It currently contains eighty-five essential carbon credit data sets, which are made available to all market players under a shared taxonomy. Underpinned by Chia blockchain technology, the CAD Trust metadata layer ensures maximum security and traceability, functioning as an open-source digital infrastructure for the public good."
CAD Trust is obviously extending its network, with plans to connect with additional independent standards and national registries soon. Here is how to do it.
Kingdom of Bhutan was the first national registry to fully integrate with CAD Trust Metadata Layer. According to the specific press release, "Bhutan, with its forests covering more than 72% of its territory, stands as a significant ‘carbon bank’, contributing to global biodiversity and carbon sequestration and is the world’s first carbon-negative country ... By integrating with CAD Trust, Bhutan guarantees the efficiency and transparency of its climate mitigation efforts, in line with Article 6 implementation".
All this in spite of being one of the smallest countries in Asia by area, with borders both with India and China.
