Sustainable Finance was announced by IOSCO as one of the themes for its 8th edition of World Investor Week (WIW) coming 7-13 October 2024. The other topics are Technology, Digital Finance and Crypto Assets.
During the last COP28, IOSCO had already shown its protagonist driving the debate on sustainable finance:
Sustainability-related corporate reporting, ISSB Disclosures, Assurance and Transition Plans
Transparent and orderly Voluntary Carbon Markets
Supervisory Practices on Asset Management and ESG Ratings and Data Product Providers
IOSCO, the acronym for International Organization of Securities Commissions, is an association of several countries organizations that regulate the world's securities and futures markets. It is headquartered in Madrid, Spain.
Since 2022 IOSCO has been focusing on "potential vulnerabilities" both from the compliance - or regulated - carbon markets and Voluntary Carbon Markets. In addition to important previous initiatives, earlier this year it launched a public consultation on the integrity and orderly functioning of the Voluntary Carbon Markets.
More recently in March 2024, the finalization of the “work on voluntary carbon markets” was included as an update to IOSCO 2023-24 Work Programme.
The World Investor Week (WIW) is an annual global campaign to raise awareness of the importance of investor education and protection, and to highlight the various initiatives of securities regulators in these two critical fronts. There will also be workshops on (a) fraud and scam prevention, (b) investor resilience and (c) basics of investing.
And as a global annual campaign, it is usual that country regulators also have a specific portal for the WIW event. As examples, here are the ones from:
